Product description
A Danish desk from the 1960s, veneered in walnut. The symmetrical form characteristic of Scandinavian design rests on four slender solid wood legs painted black, which visually separate the substantial body from the floor and lend the piece an air of lightness. The construction balances functionality with elegant proportions. Two drawer columns flank a central knee space — a classic arrangement for executive desks of the period. Six equally sized drawers provide organised storage, while decorative handles with ornamental rosettes introduce an embellishing element that softens the otherwise minimalist silhouette. Between the columns, just beneath the top, an open shelf offers discreet yet practical space for documents requiring quick access. The walnut-veneered top extends slightly beyond the body, creating gently cantilevered edges. The 1960s marked a high point for Danish cabinet furniture. Desks designed in Denmark during this era combined the structural solidity required for daily work with a visual lightness that allowed them to function equally well in domestic settings as in offices. Walnut, less commonly used than teak or rosewood, gave pieces a warmer, more intimate character — a material choice that signalled a conscious move away from cool elegance toward a sense of comfort. At one hundred and fifty centimetres wide, the desk offers ample working surface for a laptop, documents and stationery. The knee space, over fifty centimetres across, allows comfortable movement while seated. The piece works well in a home office, bedroom or living room furnished in mid-century modern style. The desk is in good condition, with minor scratches and small chips consistent with age. Small losses have been filled during conservation. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.Technical dataheight:68.5 cmwidth:150 cmdepth:75.5 cmchair gap:54.5 cm
