Product description
A Danish bookcase from the 1970s, finished in teak veneer. This piece embodies the Scandinavian approach to storage — combining closed compartments with open shelving within a single compact form, while retaining the warmth and lightness characteristic of Danish design from that era. The structure divides into two functional zones. Sliding doors conceal interior storage for items meant to stay hidden, while open shelves provide space for books and decorative objects. The handles directly into the door panels — circular recesses that allow a firm grip without any hardware protruding beyond the cabinet's profile. The whole unit rests on a low plinth base that visually lifts the form off the floor. The 1970s in Denmark marked a period when modular and multifunctional furniture dominated Scandinavian interiors. Changing living conditions — smaller apartments, more frequent relocations — demanded flexible and compact solutions. Bookcases combining the functions of a shelf unit, cabinet, and display case addressed these needs, offering comprehensive storage in a single piece. Teak veneer, widely used in Danish production at the time, gave such designs an accessible warmth without the cost of solid wood construction. The bookcase accommodates a home library, documents, and everyday objects. Adjustable shelves allow the interior to be configured for books of varying heights or office folders. At just under ninety centimetres wide, it fits comfortably in a living room, study, or bedroom. Condition is good. Minor scratches and small chips are visible on the veneer surface. Small areas of damage have been filled during restoration. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible. Dimensions: Height: 165 cm Width: 88.5 cm Depth: 42 cm
