Product description
A Danish sideboard of strikingly low profile, crafted during the 1970s in the Scandinavian Modern tradition. The form stretches almost entirely horizontal, lending it an architectural quality — a piece that defines space rather than merely occupying it. Teak veneer across the surface emphasises the linear character of the design.
The construction centres on an elongated top supported by slender, tapered legs. The proportions are deliberately radical: spanning over two and a half metres in width while standing under thirty centimetres tall. This is an intentional design choice — the piece hugs the floor, creating a horizontal line that visually expands the room. Black-finished legs contrast with the warm teak veneer, introducing a graphic element to the composition.
The 1970s marked a period of confident maturity in Danish design. Makers increasingly experimented with proportion, moving beyond classical forms toward solutions closer to interior architecture. Low furniture of this type responded to shifting domestic needs — televisions were becoming focal points in living rooms, and traditional sideboards gave way to forms suited to new realities. Veneered board construction allowed for the visual appeal of solid timber while ensuring stability across such expansive dimensions.
This sideboard serves well as a base for audiovisual equipment or as a freestanding decorative element along a longer wall. The generous top surface accommodates stereo components, a vinyl collection displayed upright, or a carefully curated arrangement of objects. The low profile avoids dominating the room and preserves open space above.
The piece is in good condition, bearing natural traces of use consistent with furniture from this era. The surface shows minor scratches and small chips. Minor losses have been filled. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
