Product description
A Danish sideboard from the 1960s, representing the mature phase of Scandinavian modernism. The horizontal silhouette stretches nearly two metres wide, yet retains visual lightness through the subtle elevation of the cabinet on slender solid wood legs.
The design centres on four sliding doors that glide open without intruding into the room. Behind the teak-veneered fronts lies a thoughtfully organised interior: adjustable shelves accommodate items of varying heights, a bar section provides dedicated storage for glassware and bottles, while drawers keep smaller objects in order. The fronts dispense with visible handles, relying instead on subtle recesses along the edges for smooth operation. Warm teak tones set against black legs create the period-typical dialogue between base and body that defined mid-century Danish cabinetmaking.
By the 1960s, Danish furniture had reached the peak of its international reputation. Sideboards of this scale emerged as the modern alternative to traditional credenzas and buffets, offering versatile storage suited to evolving middle-class lifestyles. Teak veneer, imported from Southeast Asia, became the signature material of the era, and Danish workshops mastered its application to an exceptional standard.
A piece of this capacity serves well as the primary storage element in a living room or dining area. The bar section invites a home cocktail corner, adjustable shelves hold tableware, records or audio equipment, and drawers organise cutlery, linens or documents.
The sideboard remains in good condition. The surface displays minor scratches and small knocks consistent with age, while slight losses have been filled during restoration. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
