Danish Teak Display Cabinet, Denmark, 1960s
This Danish display cabinet from the 1960s combines enclosed display space with open shelving in a restrained, architectural composition. The tall rectangular case is constructed in teak, with carefully selected veneer showing a warm, even grain across the top, sides and interior. Raised on four slender tapered legs, the cabinet maintains a light stance despite its generous storage capacity.
The upper section is enclosed by two glazed doors set within solid teak frames. Subtle mitred detailing gives the frames a particularly refined profile, while the original brass hinges and central lock provide a quiet material contrast. Behind the glass, a full-width shelf divides the display compartment into two levels. The original key remains present. Below, two open compartments provide additional storage or display space and give the façade a balanced alternation between transparent and open sections.
The cabinet has been carefully cleaned, fully inspected and treated with a high-quality furniture oil, preserving the depth and natural character of the teak. It remains in very good vintage condition overall. Both side panels show several carefully repaired holes, most likely relating to an earlier installation in which this cabinet was connected to adjoining units. The repairs remain visible on close inspection and are clearly documented in the photographs. Beyond these traces of its former configuration, the cabinet presents particularly well for its age.
