Product description
A Danish corner display cabinet from the 1960s, veneered in teak with the warm, orange-toned finish characteristic of Scandinavian design from that decade. The piece was conceived specifically for corner placement — a solution less common in mass production yet prized for making use of otherwise awkward spaces. The structure divides into three distinct zones arranged vertically. The upper section features double doors with leaded glass panels forming a decorative arcade pattern, combining display function with protection from dust. The middle zone remains open, creating a shelf accessible without opening any doors — suitable for everyday items or decorative objects. The lower section is enclosed behind solid doors, providing concealed storage. A slanted top crowns the piece, emphasizing its corner-fitting design. The 1960s marked the international peak of Danish furniture design. Danish manufacturers during this period developed not only classic sideboards and shelving systems but also specialized solutions for unconventional spaces. Corner cabinets embodied the philosophy of functional space utilization — an idea closely aligned with post-war residential architecture, where compact interiors demanded furniture adapted to specific conditions rather than generic forms. The corner configuration allows this display cabinet to occupy space typically left empty. Three storage zones enable separation of items by purpose — glassware and porcelain behind the glazed doors, frequently used objects on the open shelf, documents or supplies in the closed lower compartment. The cabinet is in good condition with signs of use consistent with its age. The teak veneer surface shows minor scratches and small chips. Minor losses have been filled during conservation. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
