Danish Teak Chest of Drawers, Denmark, 1960s
This Danish chest of drawers embodies the restrained elegance that characterises Scandinavian cabinetmaking of the 1960s. The compact cabinet is elevated on tapered solid teak legs, creating a light architectural profile while offering practical storage. The warm teak veneer displays a balanced grain pattern across the top, sides and drawer fronts, allowing the natural beauty of the timber to define the piece.
The three generously proportioned drawers are fitted with sculpted integrated pulls that span almost the full width of each drawer front. Their softly curved profile introduces depth and shadow while maintaining the clean horizontal lines of the cabinet. The upper drawer is fitted with a working lock and retains its original key, a subtle period detail that complements the understated design. Traditional dovetail joinery to the solid wood drawer boxes reflects the quality of the craftsmanship throughout.
Carefully proportioned and versatile in scale, the chest works equally well as a bedroom chest, hallway cabinet or compact sideboard. Its refined detailing and modest footprint allow it to integrate effortlessly into both mid-century and contemporary interiors.
The piece has been carefully cleaned, fully inspected and treated with a high-quality furniture oil after restoration, allowing the teak to regain its warmth and depth while preserving its natural character.
