Product description
A Danish shelving unit from the 1960s, veneered in rosewood. Its slender, vertical form rests on splayed legs, combining storage functionality with the visual lightness that defined Scandinavian design of that era.
The construction follows a simple yet considered geometry. The carcass is built from furniture board and finished in rosewood veneer, whose deep, warm tone gives the piece its refined character. Inside, adjustable shelves allow the storage space to be configured according to changing needs. Black painted solid wood legs are set at an angle, lending the unit both visual lightness and firm stability. The proportions — a narrow, upright rectangle on angled supports — create a silhouette typical of Danish modernism.
The 1960s marked the golden age of Danish furniture design, a movement that reshaped how the world thought about everyday objects. Danish makers of this period pursued a particular balance: honest construction, quality materials, and forms that served people rather than impressed them. Rosewood, prized for its expressive grain and rich colour, became one of the defining materials of the decade. Furniture veneered in this wood was made to last and to look better with time.
This shelving unit works well as a compact bookcase for volumes and art books, or as a display piece in a living room or study. Its narrow profile fits comfortably into limited spaces, while three shelf levels provide practical storage. Standing nearly one hundred and forty centimetres tall, it remains easy to access in daily use.
The unit is in good condition. The surface shows minor scratches and small scuffs consistent with use over the years. Small losses have been filled. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
