Danish Oak Chest of Drawers, Denmark, 1960s
This Danish chest of drawers is a refined example of Scandinavian cabinetmaking from the 1960s, distinguished by its clean proportions and carefully considered detailing. Constructed in oak, the cabinet is elevated on slender solid oak legs, giving the otherwise generous storage piece a light and balanced appearance. The warm golden tones of the oak are complemented by subtly sculpted solid oak drawer pulls, which run almost the full width of each drawer and create a continuous horizontal rhythm across the façade.
The five drawers are crafted from solid wood and assembled using traditional dovetail joinery, demonstrating the high standard of craftsmanship associated with Danish furniture from this period. The top drawer retains its original working lock and key, while all drawers operate smoothly and provide generous storage for clothing, linens or household items. A gently raised gallery edge surrounding the top adds a restrained architectural detail while framing the beautifully grained oak surface.
The chest has been carefully cleaned, fully inspected and treated with a high-quality furniture oil, allowing the oak to regain its natural warmth while preserving its original character. It remains in excellent vintage condition with only light signs of age and use consistent with its history.
