Product description
A Danish dining table designed by Henning Kjærnulf in the 1960s, crafted entirely from solid oak. The robust construction combines Scandinavian joinery traditions with everyday practicality, while the distinctive crossed legs give the piece its bold, recognisable silhouette.
The structure rests on two X-shaped supports linked by a horizontal stretcher that braces the entire frame. This arrangement ensures stability under considerable load while leaving ample legroom for those seated around the table. A rectangular top with gently rounded edges sits atop this sturdy base, forming a well-proportioned whole. Two extension leaves included with the set allow the surface to expand when needed.
Henning Kjærnulf was among the Danish designers who shaped dining furniture in the 1960s. His work stood out for its clean volumes and clearly articulated lines. Extendable tables answered the demands of modern living — compact for daily use, yet ready to accommodate a larger gathering at short notice. Oak, prized for its durability and handsome grain, remained a favoured timber among Danish craftsmen throughout the period.
At its standard length of one hundred and eighty centimetres, the tabletop comfortably seats six. With both leaves in place the surface extends to two hundred and sixty-three centimetres, offering room for up to ten guests. The solid-wood construction suits both a traditional dining room and a loft-style interior where natural materials set the tone.
The table is in good condition. Surfaces show minor scratches and small knocks consistent with age, and slight losses have been professionally filled. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
