Danish bog oak is ancient oak wood that has been preserved in peat bogs in Denmark for many years. The unique conditions of the bog transform the wood, giving it a distinct darker color and exceptional density. Bog oak comes from Great Britain, Ireland, and the Baltic countries. Similar boxes were made in the 1960s by Danish craftsmen like Anderson & Søhoel, Axel Salomonsen, and Hans Hansen.
The box is hallmarked “sterling” in a corner on the bottom surface and is marked with the initials G.O. (or O.G.) on the lid, probably made to order.
The box is in acceptable and used vintage condition, with no obvious damage, no restorations, no cracks, no chips, and no missing parts. Only signs of wear from age, use, and handling, mainly on the bottom surface.
The box measures 21.5 cm (8.5”) x 14 cm (5.5”) x H 4.9 cm (almost 2”) and weighs 350 gr.
