This Damchiya wedding cabinet, originating from Rajasthan, dates from the 19th century. It is distinguished by its high-quality traditional Indian cabinetmaking, characterized by relief carvings and polychrome decorative elements. This authentic Damchiya bears a very rare inventory inscription in Mahajani script, attesting to its provenance from a grand Rajasthani mansion, a Haveli. This piece comes from a private collection, acquired in 1996 from an antique dealer specializing in Indian art. Handcrafted from solid wood, this cabinet features a richly ornamented front with panels carved with figurative and geometric motifs. Touches of red, yellow, and blue enhance the carved details, while wrought iron elements, such as the hinges and latch, ensure the functionality of the doors. The structure rests on turned wooden legs, typical of the craftsmanship of this region. The overall condition reflects the age and use of the piece, with an authentic patina that testifies to its history. The wood retains its original character, offering a rich and nuanced texture.
