Product description
Beautiful vintage cabinet model ‘CU08’, designed by Cees Braakman and produced by Pastoe in the 1950s. This model belongs to the well-known U+N or Japanese series, in which Braakman clearly showed his preference for tranquility, simplicity, and refined detailing from Japanese design.
This piece comes from its first owners in Belgium and has been used with care for years. In our workshop, the cabinet has been fully restored, consciously trying to retain as much of its original appearance as possible. The teak wood has been thoroughly cleaned, nourished, and refinished, bringing out the warm color and grain of the wood beautifully again. The metal base and the black plastic handles have also been carefully cleaned. One handle has some damage.
Due to its wider format, the CU08 has a completely different look than the more compact models from the series. The cabinet appears low and calm, with a clear horizontal structure and a clear division of the fronts. The black plastic handles and the slender base provide just enough contrast against the warm teak. A sleek design, without appearing austere.
Practical aspects have also been well thought out. The large flap on the left side opens up to a work surface, with multiple compartments behind it for books, documents, or crockery. Below that are four spacious and smoothly opening drawers. Behind the two hinged doors on the right side is a generous storage space with multiple shelves. Lots of storage space, therefore, without the cabinet appearing bulky or heavy.
Summary: a strong piece of Dutch design from one of Pastoe's most beautiful periods, and a perfect example of Braakman's talent to effortlessly combine simplicity, functionality, and design.
