Crak! is one of Roy Lichtenstein's most famous works, created during a pivotal period in the prolific career of the American pop artist, and one of his most iconic. The poster image depicts a woman wearing a beret firing a rifle with the text clearly visible: "CRAK! ... NOW, MY LITTLE ONES ... FOR FRANCE." When his early works were exhibited, many art critics questioned their originality. To this, Lichtenstein replied: "The more faithful my work is to the original, the more critical and meaningful it becomes."
