Wrought iron and gold leaf gilding
Very good condition
The top is a hammered sheet metal with raw, flame-cut edges, into which two strips of gold leaf are inlaid. It rests on two gilded spindles tapered to a point, crossed by black flat irons and joined by a curved bar; two arrow-shaped irons descend from the top to the floor, supporting nothing.
Jean-Jacques Argueyrolles, born in 1954, belongs to the generation of ironworkers who, in the 1980s and 1990s, took wrought iron out of pastiche to treat it as a sculptural material. The opposition of rust and gold is his signature style.
Forging leaves each piece with its own surface imperfections: variations in rust and missing gilding are part of the object, they are not defects.
