Vroom & Dreesmann (V&D) was founded on May 1, 1887, by brothers-in-law Willem Vroom and Anton Dreesmann, who together started a retail chain focused on low, fixed prices and cash payments. They grew into the largest department store in the Netherlands, with more than seventy locations at its peak. In 2015, the chain went bankrupt and closed its doors permanently in 2016.
