Product description
This elegant armchair, model 1453, was designed in the 1960s by Coen de Vries for the Dutch furniture company Gispen. Both designer and manufacturer enjoy international recognition for their functional, progressive, and timeless approach to modern design. De Vries played a key role in post-war Dutch modernism, which emphasized comfort, industrial production techniques, and clear, logical forms.
The armchair is characterized by a sleek and balanced silhouette with a chrome-plated steel frame, wooden armrests, and generously upholstered seat and back cushions. The harmonious interplay of metal, wood, and textile is typical of the mid-century modern style: light-weight, honest in its use of materials, and designed with functionality in mind. Subtle luxury is achieved here through simplicity and refined proportions, without unnecessary ornamentation.
The armchair has recently been reupholstered in a soft, velvety green fabric that creates a warm and contemporary look. Thanks to the fabric's rich texture, its surface catches the light vibrantly, adding depth and character to the design.
This armchair seamlessly integrates with contemporary interior trends. The green color perfectly complements the current preference for natural and earthy tones, while the sleek frame and open construction create an airy and modern feel. This armchair looks stunning in both a sleek interior and a more eclectic or vintage setting.
A timeless design piece with a strong identity, combining craftsmanship, comfort, and history.
