CLAUDE JAMMET
(b. 1953, Zimbabwe)
Born in Zimbabwe, Claude Jammet grew up in Kenya, India, and Japan, and spent time in France before settling in South Africa, where she began her career as a professional painter. For the past twenty years, Jammet has lived and worked in Italy.
As an artist, Jammet is entirely self-taught. Painting is a necessity for her; the chosen medium to communicate her experiences with the world. Throughout her career of over forty years, her work has evoked the perfection of nature and humanity, regardless of culture. Her attention to people and objects seems to be a way to carry with her the people, places, and things she loves, to capture traces of her roots, and to reflect on the fleeting and ephemeral nature of everything.
Claude Jammet has had solo and group exhibitions in galleries in South Africa, Europe, and Japan. Her work is included in numerous private and corporate collections in South Africa and Europe.
