Original "Číňanka" table and wall lamp designed by Helena Frantová in Czechoslovakia in 1953. The lamp combines a minimal bent-steel frame with a tapered metal body and its original hand-stitched parchment shade. Its clever geometry allows it to stand freely on a table or hang directly on a wall, while the central light fitting can be adjusted. Frantová later became an important Czech jewellery artist, and the lamp already demonstrates the precise handling of metal and sculptural line that characterised her later work. The lamp retains a high degree of originality, including its parchment shade, bulb fitting, wiring and European plug. An inline on/off switch was added to the cord, probably in the 1970s or 1980s. Very good vintage condition with gentle age-related patina. Checked, cleaned and fully functional.
