Chris Derksen (1928-2018)
Chris Derksen was a versatile artist. In addition to being a sculptor and painter, he was also a graphic artist. Chris Derksen may be mainly known as a sculptor, but he enjoyed painting. When he still had his construction company, he already took drawing lessons in the evenings. In the 1990s, after the art academy in Turnhout, he went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Arendonk to further improve his skills in drawing, painting and graphic techniques. He presents his subjects all quite abstractly. His use of color was special: warm earth tones, reminiscent of iron. The similarities between the abstract paintings and the sculptures are striking: here too we find architectural shapes (curves and corners), but also organic shapes.
