Product description
Chiselled glass plaque depicting a maternity scene, attributed to Erwin Walter Burger in the 1960s. Diameter 26 cm, height 31 cm. Born in 1909, Erwin Burger gained solid experience as a cutter and engraver at Fontana Arte. In 1945, he decided to embark on an independent artistic path, creating a personal journey deeply marked by collaborations with prominent figures such as Pietro Chiesa and Giacomo Manzù. His early works, inspired by the engraved pieces of Aristide Colotte, gradually transformed into complex and ambivalent sculptures, where human and animal elements merge into a single form. The artist, while avoiding intentional psychological explorations, expresses a deep connection with the animal world, as demonstrated by the comparison between the wild horse head from 1051 and its more stylized predecessor. In these works, Burger achieves an unprecedented expressive maturity, imbuing his creations with a vital energy that almost makes them resemble artifacts freshly emerged from the furnace.
