Description: In 1960, the Eames Office of Charles and Ray Eames was commissioned by Time Inc. to design three entrance halls of Rockefeller Center in New York. In addition to the complete transformation of the interior design, this project also led to the creation of the exceptionally comfortable Lobby Chairs and a series of solid walnut stools.
Charles and Ray Eames are among the most important design figures of the 20th century. Their work encompasses furniture design, filmmaking, photography, and exhibition design. Vitra is the only company authorized to manufacture their products for Europe.
Their understated and timeless aesthetic allows for seamless integration into diverse settings, from those inspired by Brutalist architecture and contemporary chalets to reimagined industrial lofts. Some connoisseurs will recognize subtle or overt influences from designers such as Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand, structured lines reminiscent of Le Corbusier or Pierre Jeanneret, or the organic elegance of Nordic and Italian-American schools of design (Gio Ponti, Hans Wegner, Charles & Ray Eames, etc.).
