Wrought iron and gold leaf gilding
Very good condition
The backrest does not extend the seat: it detaches from it, supported by a single rod, like a piece of armor erected on a base. Two triangular plates spread out on either side of this rod and end in two coiled horns. The seat is a square sheet metal inlaid with gold, on three legs joined by an arch.
Jean-Jacques Argueyrolles, born in 1954, belongs to the generation of ironworkers who, in the 1980s and 1990s, took wrought iron out of pastiche to treat it as a material for sculpting. His seats are less furniture than statuary.
The two sides of the backrest are not worked in the same way: pitted and gilded on one side, cross-hatched with a chisel on the other. The chair can therefore be viewed from both sides, which allows it to be placed in the middle of a room rather than against a wall.
