About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
Figurative sculpture in chamotte terracotta with a dark brown patina, depicting two figures seated side by side. This work illustrates the formal vocabulary developed by Mario Giani, known as Clizia, whose compositions with simplified silhouettes and meditative expressions hold a unique place in Italian ceramics of the second half of the 20th century. The stylized figures with archaic and meditative forms left their mark on Italian ceramics of the 1960s-1970s. The piece is signed and numbered XII/XVII (12/17), indicating a limited edition. It possesses a beautiful sculptural presence, with a deliberately raw and textured surface that highlights the modeling of the faces and hands. Numbered XII/XVII and stamped CLIZIA under the base. Dimensions H. 25 cm × W. 28 cm × D. 13 cm.
