Product description
A ceramic bird-shaped piggy bank. It features a terracotta body with white dots, a green glazed head, and textured white details. No visible wear.
Wonderful vintage handmade ceramic money box in the shape of a chicken. made in warm unglazed terracotta and decorated with applied glazed details in turquoise. cream and brown.
The stylised. almost sculptural design is particularly charming: a rounded body. tiny expressive head. turquoise tail and abstract feather decorations. The coin slot is incorporated discreetly into the back.
The piece is signed/incised by the maker on the underside. although I haven't been able to identify the signature with certainty. The combination of earthy clay and colourful applied glazes is typical of European studio pottery from the 1960s–70s.
Approx. 12 cm long × 9 cm high.
The underside has a removable stopper. so it can still be used as a money box without breaking it open.
Very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and handmade irregularities that are part of its character.
