This is a celadon-glazed kendi, a traditional Asian pouring vessel, crafted from ceramic. The object is characterized by a sculptural design in which a figure in a praying or meditative posture rests on the back of a mythical bird-like creature.
The kendi is finished in a distinctive soft green celadon glaze, which displays a fine crackle pattern across the entire surface. The decoration consists of engraved patterns that depict in detail the wings and feathers of the animal, a hamsa (mythical bird), as well as the clothing and jewelry of the figure often identified as Brahma. The spout is shaped like the head of the creature, while an opening at the rear of the figure serves for filling the vessel. The height is approximately 25 centimeters.
The object is in condition commensurate with its age, retaining its original character. The glaze displays an authentic patina, and the crackle contributes to the historical appearance of the piece. The head has been detached but has been carefully repaired. Please see the last photo for details. The price is therefore commensurate. This kendi makes an intriguing decorative object within an eclectic or Asian-inspired interior. Its sculptural character makes it a striking collector's item that looks great in a display cabinet or on a sideboard.
