Product description
Catch Quasimodo Martini – 1960/61 – 56.00 × 38.00 cm – Original Silkscreen
A bold mid-century composition merging the theatricality of French wrestling with sharp commercial typography.
---
🎬 The Piece
The composition centers on a monochrome photographic inset of the wrestler Quasimodo, costumed in a dark tunic and mask while brandishing a bell. This figure is framed by a jagged red starburst exploding against a pale background, emphasizing the kinetic energy of the subject.
Above, the word "CATCH" appears in large, red-outlined block capitals, accompanied by heavy black arrows pointing downward. The wrestler's name is set in dense black gothic type, contrasting with the geometric "MARTINI" logo intersecting a solid red circle at the base.
✨ Why It Matters
- Captures the specific cultural intersection of sport and spectacle in 1960s France.
- Illustrates the branding synergy between professional wrestling events and major beverage sponsors.
- Preserves the visual identity of the "Quasimodo" character, a staple of the era's ring theatrics.
