Product description
Catch Original French Wrestling Poster– 1961 – 60.00 × 40.00 cm – Original Silkscreen
A typographic tour de force of French wrestling promotion on fluorescent pink paper
---
The Piece
This French wrestling broadside features a high-contrast palette of fluorescent pink, deep red, and black. The layout is strictly hierarchical, dominated by bold sans-serif typography announcing the "Super-Gala De Catch" at the Cirque Municipal in Amiens. A solid red block highlights the event title, creating a heavy visual anchor.
A halftone photograph of Ray Golden Apollon serves as the central focal point, surrounded by a roster of fighters including L'Ange Blanc. The design utilizes varying font weights and block alignment to create a dense visual texture typical of mid-century sporting advertisements.
Why It Matters
* Captures the golden age of French "Catch," featuring the iconic masked wrestler L'Ange Blanc.
* Preserves the vernacular typographic style used for local municipal events in the 1960s.
* Represents a specific historical match at the Cirque Municipal d'Amiens.
