Saint-Étienne, at the turn of the 20th century, was one of France's major industrial centers. The Luchard-Perrachon & Cie company produced its Cacao Casino there, a solubilized powder sold in 125-gram tins, designed to compete with major national brands. This square lithographed tin box (height 12 cm) is an exceptional testament to that era. The deep midnight blue background, the golden yellow cartouches with Art Nouveau scrolls on all four sides, the interwoven CP monogram in the center — all contribute to making this industrial packaging a first-rate graphic object. All four sides bear fully legible texts. The main side indicates the brand, manufacturer, and net weight. The opposite side details the instant preparation, with boiling water or hot milk. The two lateral sides extol the product's nutritional qualities and the Casino brand's guarantee of careful manufacturing. Very pronounced oxidation and flaking on the lid and edges.
