Danish vintage Armchair – Carl Edward Matthes, model 33A
A characterful Danish Armchair from the 1950s, attributed to Carl Edward Matthes and produced by Matthes Polstermøbelfabrik. This is, according to various sources, model 33A, a compact and lightly built Armchair that possesses much of the recognizable appearance of the better-known, larger, and heavier-looking Matthes model 33.
Where model 33 impresses with its more pronounced, robust appearance, this version distinguishes itself precisely by its modest proportions and airy construction. The wooden frame appears refined and slender, while the curved lines and characteristic armrests create a recognizable Danish silhouette. The combination of the organically shaped woodwork and the soft, upholstered seat and back parts gives the Armchair an inviting look, without the design becoming heavy or overtly present.
The frame is made of beech wood and is in neat vintage condition. The wood has a characterful patina that suits the age and use of the furniture and gives the Armchair its authentic appearance.
The entire upholstery has been renewed, including the filling. A heavy-quality upholstery fabric in a light cream to off-white shade, with a subtle bouclé structure, was chosen for this. The rich texture forms a beautiful contrast with the warm wood and gives the Armchair a fresh, contemporary look, while the original design is fully preserved.
