Rare and beautiful candlesticks crafted from lucite/acrylic, a hard plastic, with brass/gilded details. Due to the use of a single piece of bent and twisted acrylic to form the whimsical base, this candlestick is often called the pretzel (Pretzel). The design of the candlesticks is by Elaine Bscheider for Dorothy C. Thorpe. Dorothy Thorpe, based in California, began designing glass pieces in the 1940s. Her work was initially sold in a small Hollywood gift shop and was soon picked up by larger, well-known stores. Her client base grew and included famous names such as Clarke Gable, Princess Grace of Monaco, and the Shah of Iran. In the mid-20th century, she began experimenting with lucite on the design of these Pretzel candlesticks, which are generally attributed to Elaine Bscheider for Dorothy Thorpe Inc. The candlestick is in very neat condition with minimal signs of use. Dimensions: H 20 x W 20 x D 16 cm Weight: 467 grams Photos show the exact product and all items come from a smoke-free home.
