Sori Yanagi (Jap.1915-2011)
Rosewood veneer/plywood with brass fittings
A classic ‘Butterfly’ stool. Manufactured by Tendo Mokko, circa 1970s. A perfect fusion of Western function and Eastern or Asian sensibility, the iconic Butterfly Stool was originally conceived in 1954 by Japanese designer Sori Yanagi. The stool is made from two curving and inverted L-shaped rosewood sections, each forming a separate leg and half of the seat. The two halves are joined together by a brass rod midway between the legs that essentially holds the stool halves together. A classic, elegant and timeless design. Excellent condition. It has production numbers stamped into the underside and the measurements conform to the slightly smaller Japanese scale.
