This authentic Burmese wooden temple statue depicts a kneeling monk in a prayer pose, crafted from solid wood with multiple layers of lacquer, remnants of gold leaf, and traditional glass inlay. The surface shows clear and natural aging, with craquelure, wear, and exposed lacquer layers that reveal the object's true age and use. It is precisely this well-worn appearance that gives the statue its power, warmth, and compelling presence. The statue is not only decoratively attractive but has also been technically examined for its construction, material behavior, and wear pattern. This involved looking at the lacquer structure, how the gold has aged, the wood core, and the natural aging of the surface. Based on this, the piece can be placed within the Burmese Mandalay tradition, with a dating of approximately 1850–1920 and an estimated value of €1,600–€2,200.
