Product description
This sunburst pendant lamp dates from the 1940s and exemplifies mid-20th-century European Rustic and Brutalist hand-forged metalwork. The structure is crafted by hand from wrought metal, shaped into a concave circular dish surrounded by pointed sun rays along its outer perimeter. A continuous border of hand-punched repoussé dots runs around the rim at the base of the rays, framing the central circular diffuser of textured translucent glass set inside the metal frame. The main body hangs from three hollow, hand-hammered metal rods through which the wiring passes, connected in their upper section by intermediate forged rings that add visual rhythm to the vertical suspension. At the top, the three hollow rods converge into a matching circular ceiling canopy, which replicates both the pointed sunburst silhouette and the punched beaded border of the lower shade. Every component, from the individually cut rays to the hammered tubular suspension bars, reflects traditional blacksmithing techniques executed without industrial stamping. With balanced proportions of 19.69 in (50 cm) in height and 19.69 in (50 cm) in diameter, this pendant lamp suits an entry hall, a dining area, a covered gallery, or a living room with medium to high ceilings. The combination of dark forged metal and diffused central light integrates naturally into interiors ranging from Spanish Colonial and Rustic country houses to eclectic Mid-Century Modern and Brutalist architectural spaces seeking an authentic 1940s piece.
