This is a characteristic Brutalist stool, manufactured in France during the 1950s or 1960s. The design is characterized by its robust, solid wood construction and sculptural form, typical of the Brutalist movement that embraced the beauty of raw materials and simple shapes. The top or seat measures 20x22.5cm. The stool is entirely made of a harder wood type, oak/chestnut/elm, with the rich grain and texture of the material prominently present. The thick, faceted seat rests on three sturdy, angled legs that provide a stable base. The construction is honest and direct, giving the object an authentic and timeless appearance. Due to its shape and size, the furniture is versatile, usable both as an extra seat or as a unique side table. The object is in good, vintage condition. One of the legs is slightly loose but the stool is sturdy when you sit on it. One of the legs has a shrinkage crack, see photo. Over the years, the wood has developed a deep, warm patina that contributes to the character of the piece. The construction is solid and the original finish has been well preserved, emphasizing the history and lived-in character of the stool. This wooden stool adds an element of texture and sculptural simplicity to various interior styles, from modern to eclectic or rustic. It functions excellently as an accent piece next to an armchair, as a pedestal for a plant or art object, or as a compact seating solution.
