Product description
A striking brutalist armchair with a matching ottoman, made of solid oak and upholstered with the original, natural goat hide; the set dates from approximately the 1960s.
The armchair rests on a robust solid oak frame, featuring a high, slightly reclining backrest, wide horizontal armrests, and a particularly detailed under-construction. Particularly characteristic are the wavy front rail under the seat, the pronounced, block-shaped front legs, and the curved rear uprights.
The loose seat and back cushions are upholstered with goat hide with a natural pattern; the upholstered side panels give the chair a silhouette reminiscent of a wingback armchair. The back is also carefully designed: the hide-covered backrest is framed by visible solid oak.
The matching ottoman combines the same warm oak and goat hide, and features rounded legs, slender connecting rails, and traditional webbing under the upholstered top part.
The design combines a robust construction with elements typical of Scandinavian and European rustic modernism of the 1960s.
The original goat hide has developed a warm, varied patina; the natural differences in color, texture, and hair growth are an essential part of the set's character. The oak also shows a patina consistent with its age, as well as light signs of wear.
