2-seater sofa By Magis DARK GRAY Collection Brut Type 2-seater sofa with removable fabric cover Year of production 2017 Designer Konstantin Grcic Sofas. Materials: polyester painted cast iron frame. Removable cushion covers in polyurethane foam covered in Kvadrat fabric (Divina MD, Divina Melange, Hero, Vidar), Torri Lana (Rico) or Glamour (Azimut, Amby, Globo, Shee). The starting point for this project was a very specific production process: cast iron. It is one of the oldest methods of working ferrous metals. The production process has an almost archaic physicality and materiality. Iron foundries are part of heavy industry. Although cast iron is mainly used for decorative purposes, such as in Victorian garden furniture, it is a material with two unique characteristics: it is heavy and robust. Cast iron performs well under compression: this is why it is used as a structural material in bridge construction and, on a more furniture-like scale, as the base for heavy machinery. It is precisely this use of cast iron that inspired BRUT, a collection of tables and benches. The project recalls the industrial use of cast iron and applies the grammar of this material to the realm of contemporary furniture: a solid and uncompromising material. The name Brut, in fact, means raw and untreated, but at the same time it also brings to mind the sweetness of sparkling wine. A name that therefore expresses refinement and sophistication, which are also characteristics of our project. The name evokes something raw, unfinished. A massive piece of heavy and inflexible iron. Yet BRUT also recalls the sweetness of sparkling wine, which speaks to us of refinement and elegance, qualities intrinsic to our project as well. The BRUT collection consists of a large rectangular table, a height-adjustable trestle table, two round tables, a bistro table, and two types of benches.
