Product description
Designed in the 1940s (produced in the 1960s), Bruno Mathsson's "Eva" sofa is an exemplary piece that demonstrates his mastery of form, function and material innovation. This iconic sofa is characterized by its clean, organic lines and ergonomic design, reflecting Mathsson's deep commitment to user comfort and usability. Made with a curved wooden frame and often upholstered in leather, the Eva sofa exemplifies the seamless integration of traditional craftsmanship with modernist aesthetics. Its lightweight yet sturdy structure demonstrates Mathson's skill in using bent and laminated wood techniques to create furniture that is both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. The Eva sofa's timeless design has ensured its enduring popularity, making it a staple in both residential and commercial spaces, and a testament to Mathsson's lasting impact on modern furniture design. Mathsson created chairs with webbing as a lighter alternative to the heavier springs, padding and upholstery found in more expensive armchairs. To ensure maximum comfort, he designed a new type of frame, shaped to follow the natural curves of the human body, making the chair adapt to the person sitting in it rather than the person adapting to the chair. Bruno Mathsson (1907-1988) was a famous Swedish furniture designer and architect, acclaimed for his pioneering work in functionalism and modernist design. His innovative use of materials and wood techniques, revolutionized furniture design. Mathsson's creations, such as the "Pernilla" chair and the "Eva" chair, are distinguished by their ergonomic forms, clean lines and minimalist aesthetics. His work seamlessly combines functionality with elegance, where comfort and people-oriented design are paramount. Mathsson's influence extends beyond Sweden, leaving an indelible impression on 20th century furniture design and cementing his legacy as a key figure in modernism. "As standard, we (Bruno Mathsson International) use leather from Elmo Sweden AB, which collects and tans its raw materials in Sweden. The leather Elmosoft is a so-called semi-aniline leather, which means it is dyed through and through and has undergone a treatment that increases its durability without sacrificing the feel of leather."
