Product description
A very elegant and atmospheric bronze Buddha head, executed in the classic Thai Sukhothai style. The Sukhothai period (13th-15th century) is known as the golden age of Thai Buddhist art, beautifully reflected in the serene facial features, the mystical smile, and the iconic flaming ushnisha (cranial protuberance).
This high-quality vintage object dates from the mid-20th century and was entirely handcrafted using the traditional 'lost-wax' casting method.
On the inside of the head, the original, charred remains of the mineral casting core (orange-red clay/earth) are still clearly visible and palpable. This is the ultimate proof of identity for a handmade bronze casting.
Over the decades, the bronze has developed a beautiful, deep dark patina with natural, powdery light green oxidation traces on the raw, uneven inside of the fracture edge.
The sculpture is in fantastic vintage condition with a beautiful lived-in appearance. Nothing has been deliberately treated on the authentic interior to preserve its original state and value.
A magnificent, calming sculpture for lovers of Asian craftsmanship or a Zen interior.
Total height (including base): 24 cm
Height of the Buddha head itself: 18 cm
