Rare Norwegian Mid-Century Teak Sideboard — Arnt Sørheim
This beautiful teak sideboard is a rare masterpiece from the heyday of Scandinavian design. Designed in the 1960s by Arnt Sørheim for the Norwegian factory Brødrene Sørheim Møbelfabrikk AS, this piece of furniture brings pure design history into your home. Because this factory produced on a much smaller scale at the time than the well-known Danish manufacturers, this model is today a rare and valuable design classic.
The design exudes the beloved Mid-Century Modern style. The row of five central drawers immediately stands out thanks to the flowing, inlaid cup handles familiar from the iconic Arne Vodder style, giving the cabinet a beautiful sculptural character.
The craftsmanship is visible in the solid teak frame with elegantly rounded corners and the continuous, flame-like wood grain. Thanks to the slender base with tapered legs, the sideboard maintains an airy, floating appearance in the room.
The furniture has been recently restored. During this process, the cabinet was thoroughly cleaned and nourished, stains and other imperfections were removed by sanding, and the entire piece was re-lacquered while fully preserving its authentic character and warm, fitting patina.
Furthermore, the cabinet has undergone a virtually invisible modification. The fault-prone mechanical locks on the doors have been professionally converted to a modern magnetic system; since parts for the original locks were no longer available, the original keys have been fixed in place and now function as fixed handles. The sleek appearance remains exactly as the designer intended. A unique showpiece, ready for a stylish new interior.
Traces of use appropriate for age and intended use are present but never obtrusive; thanks to recent restoration, it is in very beautiful, well-maintained condition. Country of origin: Norway
