The mark on the back leaves no doubt. The blue stamp of the Boulenger et Cie factory in Choisy-le-Roi, with the mention "Terre de Fer" and the "Croisières" model, attests to a quality French industrial production from the late 19th century. Boulenger was then one of the major earthenware factories in the Paris basin, renowned for the solidity of its "Terre de Fer" and the delicacy of its printed decorations. The decoration is a rigorously designed geometric frieze, composed of clover medallions and blue interlace patterns on an ivory background. The lines are clean, the blue deep, the whole presenting a sober elegance that has not aged. The oval format, approximately 26 cm in length, is that of the classic relish dish, designed for appetizers, vegetables, or condiments on a set table. The piece displays the beautiful patina of old "Terres de Fer", with its fine enamel crazing characteristic of its age. A small chip is present on the footrim on the reverse side, invisible when displayed. Some traces of use consistent with its age, with no cracks or restorations noted. Placed on a sideboard or integrated into an antique service, it asserts its presence with the discretion of beautiful objects.
