Product description
This is a vintage pedestal desk designed by Børge Mogensen for the esteemed Danish retailer Illums Bolighus. The piece is a fine example of Danish Modern design, characterized by its functionalism, clean lines, and honest use of materials. Its substantial form and thoughtful configuration reflect Mogensen's belief in creating practical, high-quality furniture for everyday life.
Constructed from wood with a warm, expressive grain, the desk features a generous work surface supported by two pedestals. The left pedestal contains a bank of five drawers, while the right pedestal offers two deeper drawers, providing ample and varied storage. A pull-out tray above the right pedestal adds extra surface area. The piece is finished with simple, curved metal drawer pulls that complement its straightforward aesthetic.
The desk is presented in good vintage condition, retaining its original character and structural integrity. The wood has developed a patina consistent with its age and history, showcasing the enduring quality of its construction. This piece is a testament to the golden age of Scandinavian furniture design.
With its classic silhouette and significant storage capacity, this desk is well-suited for a home office or study. It anchors a room with quiet authority and pairs elegantly with other Mid-Century Modern or contemporary furnishings, serving as a functional and historically significant centerpiece.
