Product description
Boch Frères Keramis “Fleurs de Saxe” Art Deco Pitcher – La Louvière, c. 1930s A charming and highly decorative Art Deco ceramic pitcher by Boch Frères Keramis, La Louvière, featuring the celebrated “Fleurs de Saxe” (Flowers of Saxony) decoration — one of the manufactory’s most recognisable and enduring floral patterns. The pitcher has a particularly appealing and unusual form, with a generous spherical body, a small sculpted pouring lip and an exceptionally large circular handle. The handle and fine details around the rim are finished in gold, creating an elegant contrast with the warm ivory ground. The surface is richly decorated with scattered polychrome bouquets and individual flowers in pink, violet, cobalt blue, yellow, orange and green. Inspired by the tradition of European porcelain flower painting, the Fleurs de Saxe decoration brings a deliberately romantic character to the otherwise clean and distinctive form. At approximately 14 cm high, this is a compact decorative piece that works beautifully as an accent in a contemporary interior. Its colourful floral decoration also makes it an attractive and original gift, while its Boch Frères provenance gives it additional interest for collectors of Belgian ceramics and Art Deco design. The pitcher is in good vintage condition. There is some rubbing and loss to the gilding, particularly on the handle and other exposed areas, as visible in the photographs. Considering that the piece is approaching a century old, these signs of age are entirely consistent with its history and do not detract from its decorative appeal. The underside bears the original Boch Frères – La Louvière – Made in Belgium factory mark, confirming its origin. A delightful example of historic Belgian ceramics, combining an unusual sculptural form, one of Boch Frères’ best-known floral decorations, and the unmistakable charm of interwar European design.
