A timeless classic designed by Omer Arbel, this pendant lamp is manufactured by Bocci in Vancouver, Canada, using an elaborate casting process. It is in excellent, pristine condition and virtually unused, as I moved abroad shortly after purchase, and the piece went directly from the showroom to storage.
This pendant lamp features 36 cast borosilicate glass spheres with varying cable lengths, ranging from 50 to 320 cm in this model. The spheres are clear or transparent and are suspended from a rectangular, white powder-coated canopy.
Each sphere consists of two hemispheres that fuse to form a solid sphere, accentuated in the center by a coarsely textured, meniscus-like "equator." This equator forms as the glass cools and creates the unique light refractions of the spheres.
A precise and seamless opening, crafted with diamond drill bits, accommodates the custom-made fittings by Bocci. Inside is a cavity that houses a xenon lamp in this version (the model is also available with a low-voltage LED).
The light accentuates the natural imperfections in the glass, making each sphere a vibrant and beautiful one-of-a-kind piece. The lamp emits a wonderful glow that enhances any room.
This lighting object is a collector's item, and its new price continues to rise. The current retail price is €28,000. Therefore, the current asking price of €12,000 for a like-new piece is no longer negotiable.
Dimensions can be found in the technical drawings; the total weight is over 80 kg. Shipping is possible. Due to the weight, I recommend transport via freight carrier on a pallet for safety. Shipping to other European countries costs approximately €250-400.
