Executive/Boardroom Sideboard by Horst Brüning for Behr Möbel Germany, ca. 1967 Model: 1730 series, short model, custom-made • Finish: Body in quarter-sawn sapele mahogany veneer • Handles: Leather strap mounted through the panel (custom option) • Doors: parallel-sliding system (pull forward, then sideways) • Top rail in aluminum • Base: cast aluminum cantilever legs with round disc feet • Back fully veneered for freestanding placement in the center of the room • Interior in birch veneer with adjustable shelf • Locks by Voco (Germany) • Dimensions: Width: approx. 156 cm Depth: approx. 42 cm Height: approx. 64 cm • Rare piece! • Minor signs of wear (see photos) More info: The 1730 series by Horst Brüning was introduced by Behr in 1967 as part of their executive and conference line. The furniture was known for its minimalist design language, high-quality materials, and innovative details such as the cantilever aluminum legs and the advanced sliding door system. The design aligned with international high-end office furnishings and was often available in teak, wenge, or mahogany, or in special versions like this example; Sapele mahogany with leather handles. This piece was designed for project furnishing or commissioned by a client. Extremely rare! This attribution was made through extensive comparative research. Historical product catalogs, trade journal archives, design files, and international auction archives were consulted. The combination of design features – such as the cast aluminum cantilever base, the unique sliding door system, the fully veneered back and the specific dimensions – directly ties in with documented Behr productions from around 1967–1970
