A black sphere, 15 cm, placed on a low oak cabinet, on a metal shelf, in the corner of a room. It asks for nothing. It captures everything. The glaze is a deep black that turns mahogany brown depending on the light. Shiny, almost a mirror, it reflects the space, the window, the passing silhouette. On a low oak cabinet, on a black metal shelf, in a corner, it finds its place everywhere and marks its presence. Handmade by a potter, a unique piece. The surface retains traces of the firing process, micro-bubbles and tonal variations, which prove that this piece has no twin. The red terracotta base bears the potter's incised mark, made by finger. It has weight, presence, gravity in the literal sense. It's the kind of object you place somewhere and never move again. Unique piece. French studio potter, second half of the 20th century.
