Product description
Magnificent large bicolor biscuit in hard porcelain, stamped under the base L&M, and numbered 59, Manufacture Letu & Mauger L’Isle-Adam, Val-d’Oise, France. Antique, 19th century, circa 1860–1890. Model depicting Leda, daughter of Thestios, wife of Tyndare king of Sparta, accompanied by Zeus in the form of a swan, a mythological subject from the Metamorphoses, titled "Leda and the Swan", treated in dark celadon and matte white, a rather uncommon shade for this model which is more often treated in pale blue and white with more white biscuit areas on the character, it may be an workshop test here. Beautiful quality of Sculpture with fine drapery, careful anatomy and elegant movement of the bird. Approximately 35 cm high, 20 cm wide and deep. Very good general condition, the swan's head has been restored by a professional workshop, very clean finish and discreet restoration in presentation. Also note a non-through hairline crack under the base, invisible and without consequence. Approximately 2-3kg.
