An elegant and beautifully preserved pair of candle holders by the renowned French glassmaker La Verrerie de Biot, celebrated for its distinctive handmade bubble glass.
Crafted in delicate, transparent pale blue glass, these charming pieces feature an exceptionally beautiful texture created by hundreds of tiny air bubbles suspended within the glass. The bubbles catch and refract the light, producing a wonderful sparkling effect and giving each piece its own individual character.
The candle holders have an elegant, gently flared silhouette with rounded bodies and substantial circular bases. Their harmonious proportions and subtle Mediterranean blue colour make them particularly attractive as a matching pair.
Historical Background
Founded in 1956 in the picturesque village of Biot on the French Riviera by master glassmaker Éloi Monod, La Verrerie de Biot became internationally renowned for its innovative verre bullé technique.
At a time when traditional glassmaking sought perfect clarity, Monod transformed what had previously been considered an imperfection — tiny air bubbles trapped inside the glass — into a distinctive decorative feature.
This revolutionary approach became the signature of Biot glass, establishing the manufactory as an important name in French decorative glassmaking during the second half of the 20th century.
Today, vintage Biot glass is particularly appreciated by collectors and interior designers for its organic textures, luminous colours and timeless Mediterranean character. Its handcrafted appearance works beautifully in contemporary, minimalist and mid-century modern interiors.
A Beautiful Decorative Pair
