A particularly expressive composition in which the figures seem to gradually emerge from color and material.
The scene is dominated by an imposing dark, almost monumental figure, around which a whole group of lighter silhouettes unfolds. Some are barely sketched by a few lines or transparencies, while others take shape thanks to thick impastos of white, pink, and red.
The deep blue occupying the upper part of the canvas gives unity to the composition and contrasts with a much brighter palette of yellows, pinks, greens, and whites.
The painting also takes on another dimension when observed closely: the superpositions, drips, transparencies, and material reliefs show a very free and gestural execution. The figures are not precisely described; they appear and disappear within the painting.
On the reverse is the handwritten dedication « Per la cara Modella », followed by « Bernard » and the date « 98 ». This Italian inscription is an interesting element of the material history of the work and can also offer a key to understanding the composition.
