This is an authentic barber chair from the iconic brand Belmont and dates from somewhere in the 1950s. A real piece of history with two paper rolls still in the headrest. The footrest is not adjustable, unlike most other Belmont models.
The chair is made with a solid metal frame, finished with shiny chrome. The seat and backrest are upholstered with black and brown skai, or another similar material. The heavy, cream-colored base provides stability and contains the hydraulic mechanism to adjust the chair's height and rotate it. The hydraulic mechanism was already leaking when I bought the chair in 2004, so after pumping it up, the chair gradually sinks back down. The chair originally had an adjustable headrest, but something is missing (also since I took over the chair in 2004) which makes it no longer adjustable.
The backrest has a tilting mechanism for extra comfort.
This barber chair has had a rich life, and it shows. The original upholstery and chrome work have a lived-in character and patina that suits its age of about 70 years. It is a fantastic decorative object for an industrial or eclectic interior, or can serve as a unique Armchairs in a living room or mancave.
I myself used the chair as a kind of 'captain's seat' office chair from 2004 to 2007 and then left it in the house as a decorative object.
